Abajo con los coconuts como Enrique!
1ero de Mayo-El Leon despierta de su sueño.
The City would have more upset people than happy, if the city can not operate on Monday. Think of the following: can't pay your water bill, can't get your plans approved, can't get your permits approved. Your child is board because, no practice at park, teen center closed, natatorium closed.
The City has a rally on Sunday, I suggest the employees participate on that day, instead of Monday.
Wow, I'm not even going to get into how racially charged the term "coconut" is.
Furthermore, he has a JOB to do. If some of you wish to ignore your responsibilities in favor of a cause, that's fine, but don't expect that a political protest is justification for getting out of work. More importantly, don't expect that everybody will agree with your cause.
You are not being fair, why do we have African American Month. Why can't we stand up for our rights. I bet you if it was something to do with African Americans the city would close
I agree with the previous comment, With Latinos they are not intimidated because we dont stick together like they do, or do they expect us to burn the city down to be heard...........
I disagree with the white wash....no matter how much you ASSIMILATE THEY WILL STILL SEE YOU AS A DARK BROWN ILLEGA ALIEN, EVEN IF YOU HAVE A SUIT AND A TIE!!!
I do not believe in African American month either, it's a separatist celebration that says "yeah, we're American, but we're different." It's amazing how so many people have fought for EQUAL rights and EQUAL protection and all you want is to highlight how UNEQUAL we are.
Why should anybody be intimidated of latinos? I'm sorry, but I don't want to be seen as a threat to anybody. I'm as much a part of this country as anybody else.
It's sad to see that you have a mentality that prevents you from seeing yourself as anything other than a "dark brown illegal alien" -- It's obvious that you're projecting your perception of yourself if you're unwilling to give people a chance to see you otherwise. You're attributing racism to an unspecified population, although I'm assuming you're speaking about whites, which in turn really just reflects how racist YOU are.
The more you're obsessed with something that you have no control over, such as the color of your skin, the easier you make it for people to identify you on those grounds. Mexican is what my passport says. Mexican is my nationality. Mexican is not who or what I am. I am a person, and the choices I make in life are what shape me. Having been born in Mexico is just a footnote to my accomplishments. It's a bit of trivia.
I am not a product of circumstance. I am not a victim of causality. I am a free man of free will living in a free land. My path is guided by the choices I make. Nobody can stop me unless I have stopped myself first or granted them the power to do so.
If you believe in this cause, do what you must. But you can't expect others to follow suit based on something as circumstancial as similar skin color.
Cut the bulLshit previous poster. You're so full of your self, your eyes are turning brown. You are totally missing the point.
The May 1st boycot is about stoping a racist law. Some in this country want to make it a FELONY to be here without a visa or green card. They also want to make into criminals anyone who "assists" an immigrant by giving them food, work or shelter.
How come it was oaky for the city hall to be closed down for the so called holidays?
How can this highly commercialized holiday be more important than to make a statement about how valuable immigrants (legal or not) really are to the U.S.?
As far as the argument that it's okay to "ENFORCE THE LAW" and the bullcrap about obeying this and that law.
Not so long ago it was "THE LAW" to make blacks ride on the back of the bus. It was "THE LAW" to have segregated schools, and on and on.
I can't help it if some of you are ignorant and therefore don't support the "Boycot". Some of you who only have a "green card" can have it taken away by "THE LAW" any time the government feels it should legislate to do so.
And what about Women's right to vote? It wasn't until 1920 that "THE LAW" was changed to give women this right.
What about our "glorious" Constitution which at one point declare that "Blacks who were for purposes of congressional representation, to be counted as "three fifths" of a person"?
Furthermore, Section 8, referred to "Indian tribes", who were thus excluded from the universalistic category of "citizen"?
WAKE UP! - This isn't about being responsible or not, is about human rights, it's about the dignity of immigrants, "LEGAL" or not.
Don't work or buy anything on MAY 1st!
The hell with the soon to be replaced Lynwood City manager.
Viva Villaraigosa. he gets it!
VIVA LA RAZA!!!
Yes, great, once the arguments grow thin here come the ad hominem attacks.
What racist law? HR 4437? Have you read its current form? Do you understand that it was reviewed in the Senate? Obviously you don't since you're still talking about the non-existent version of HR 4437. It's funny, I know a woman who is from the Ukraine and she has been deported twice already. I didn't know racist laws affected white Europeans.
The rest of your post is just made up of a series of inflamatory exaggerations intended to stir people's passions rather than appeal to their logic. Need I remind you that it is passion that leads to discrimination and logic that led to equality.
Again, you're protesting against a proposed law [HR4437] which you obviously know nothing about.
Civil disobedience is fine, but there's a price to it. If people are fired because they don't show up to work, it is justified.
I just would like to handed to the person that posted the comment on April 29th at 3:28pm.
Not too manny people has the knolege of history to put it just the way you put it.
Manny inmigrants have died to come to this country, and manny have die defending it.
My opinion about the March is that If we don't like proposed law we must protest, march, Vote or do wherterver it takes to stop it or change it.

(I know it's you Enrique, como eres menso!)
o quizas seas la mujer del Ukraine?
It seems that you are NOT a student of history, and therefore need to learn that anyone who IGNORES IT, is bound to repeat its mistakes.
Don’t try to discredit me because of your ignorance.
WORK A LITTLE HARDER. You are the one who is "lying" to the people.
You can be forgiven for being IGNORANT, but if you continue to IGNORE the racist past of our "Founding Fathers", then you would have also proven your stupidity.
PAY ATTENTION!
The written document known as the American Constitution contains only TRACES of this old racial constitution, e.g., Article I, section II, in which reference is made to"other persons" (i.e., slaves) who are, for purposes of congressional representation, to be counted as "three fifths" of a person, and Article I, section 8, that refers to "Indian tribes",who are thus excluded from the otherwise universal category of "citizen". The old racial constitution was institutionally embodied in slavery, in treaty arrangements with Native Americans, and in restrictive immigration laws that applied to Asians of all description, e.g.,the Chinese Exclusion Acts, the "Gentlemen's Agreement" with Japan of 1907-1908, and in a1917 law that prohibited the admission of laborers from an "Asiatic Barred Zone"1. Aside from this, the old American racial constitution was solidly embedded in social and economic practices of segregation, discrimination, and status inferiority. These arrangements established a caste relationship between Whites of European extraction, and peoples of color, who included African Americans, Hispanics, Asian Americans, and Native Americans.
Your Ignorance can be cured, but I’m a afraid your stupidity is an incurable disease.
A tu salud "guey" or “gueya”!!!

Illegal immigrants are fighting for democracy in Iraq. Many have paid the ultimate price.

AJUA!!! Chinguen a su maaaaadreee los racistassssss!!!!
It amazes me how racist you are. White this, white that.
Stop projecting your racism onto others and provide a solid argument that doesn't depend on the dismissal of a very diverse group of people based on their skin color.
To the previous poster. What's your problem?
I hate racist people like you.
Soon the so called immigrants which you call "illegal" will be by law "LEGALIZED"
Yeah, that's what the current form of HR4437 proposes, but so few people have actually followed this law. It's the damndest thing, I still hear people say "no on HR4437"
You will also see how easy the white capitalist change the law because it serves their purpose. "Cheap labor".
Here you go with your racism again. White this. White that.
You can't deny the fact that the racist white majority of this nation once made it "LEGAL" to enslave black people and to commit genocide against the indigenous people of America.
So you're blaming the children for the sins of the father? Then I guess it's perfectly fine to persecute the jewish for the death of Christ, right?
They systematically killed the buffalo so they could starve the American Indians to death.
Funny, I thought they just killed the buffalo to sell expensive hides. Oh, wait, I forgot, you live in the past so you know what their intentions were.
They stole Indian and Mexican land by making "LAWS" that legitimize the raping, the killing so they could steal these lands.
Santa Ana was losing control of the "Mexican land" and had the US not taken it, California and the northernmost sections of Mexico would have begun to break off, as Texas did.
F*ck the law, when it discriminates, F*ck the law when it legislates a group of people as superior to another.
Yeah, that's what I think about laws that favor specific groups. It's insulting when people push for affirmative action
We're pushing for full amnesty and legalization.
And what do you propose we do about border enforcement and protection? It's nice and good that you talk about what YOU want, but your wants are not all-important.
It is only until recently that we've learn to play the white man's LAW and MEDIA game. And we're going to prevail!
Again with the racism. White this. White that. Let me ask you a question: Do you feel inferior to whites? Is that it? I dunno, I just see it as the law and media, but you obviously think that whites have control over you
The truth is whether you and other anti-immigrant idiots like it or not, the laws will always prove that the mighty dollar is the only real rule of this land.
Who said anybody was anti-immigrant? I'm an immigrant. I just believe in respect, and it's awfully disrespectful both to Mexicans and Americans when Chicanos go out on the street flying the Mexican flag. You offend Americans and you disgrace our flag
This land has been sold, bought and paid for by foreign governments a long time ago. Britain, Japan, Saudi Arabia, China, etc.
ahuh....
These foreign governments are the REAL reason why some un-educated whites and others are losing their jobs.
Couldn't possibly have anything to do with the large number of illegals who are willing to do jobs for dirt cheap wages and then turn around and complain about being exploited, right? Even Cesar Chavez knew better, he reported illegals to the INS
China bribed their way during the Clinton administration "as most favored trading partner"
No we are being bombarded with inexpensive Chinese made products and are causing a lot of American manufacturers to go out of business and to lay off THOUSANDs of ahite workers. Thanks to Clinton and a stupid Congress we now have a 200 Billion trade deficit with China.
Right, this is true. Outsourcing is the other side of the problem, but lets stick with the domestic side of it for now.
Fact: Mexico's is the number 1 trading partner to the U.S.
Awesome, as it should be, we're neighbors not rivals
Fact: The money that immigrants sent to Mexico, always makes it way back to American companies.
The money that immigrants send to Mexico has more adverse effects on the Mexican population.
Fact: Mexico # 1 supplier of manufactured goods is the U.S.
Again, we're neighbors, this should be a no brainer
Fact: Mexico and Mexican legal or not, are NOT the enemy, the previously mentioned companies are!
Funny, you attack companies but they're lobbying in favor of immigrants. Talk about not knowing who your allies are
Mexican immigrants are a PLUS to the American economy. They are the reason why some American companies have not gone overseas to manufacture their goods.
So you're advocating the exploitation of illegals? Because if we call for amnesty, then these people will then be elligible for minimum wage, in which case the benefits you mention in this statement will be null and void
Fact: The U.S. economy grew by 4.9% in the first quarter of 2006.
Are you trying to suggest that this is exclusively due to immigrants?
Where are the problems these "Illegals" are causing. It is only in the minds of a vocal few ignorant racists.
You can't idealize illegals either. Are their contributions substancial? Yes. But you're an idiot if you think they don't cause problems. Also, if you take a minute to listen to those "racist" whites that you criticize so much, and you can free yourself of your own bias you'll hear what they're really saying. The problem isn't about legalities, it's about respect. When people demand shit in Spanish. That's disrespect. When you fly a foreign flag. That's disrespect. When you call whites racist even though many of them have never harbored a racist sentiment in their lives. That's disrespect. When you refuse to be a part of the system but expect to get all it's prestations. That's disrespect.
Don't hate the immigrants, if you're going to hate anyone, hate the companies who hire them.
Who's talking about hate? Stop projecting your own ideas. We're talking about our disapproval for a ridiculous protest that could not have come at a worse time, from our perspective. I would imagine you would LISTEN to us, since we're actually on the conservative side. So not only are we here discussing things with you, we're also giving you an insight into what the perception will be from the right.
If you're so Anti-immigrant, don't eat produce that was picked by illegal farm workers.
Start buying your lettuce and tomatoes at 5X the price that was picked by white legal workers.
And since you have so much money. Don't buy shirts or pants that were made in the garment industry of LA, because chances are they were made by "illegal" workers.
Also buy your food at markets that you now for a fact don't hire illegal.
Also don't eat at restaurant that you know that the cooks and the dishwashers are illegal.
You will soon see that you'll need to get a second job.
Don't be a hypocrite, don't wash your car where you usually do. You know darn well the brown skin guy who washed it, is "illegal" as you call it.
Stop with the exaggerations.
It seems to me that you're scared. You think that somehow legalizing the 11 million + illegals is a bad thing. It is not!
It's not. So long as they're ready to obey laws, learn English, pay taxes, send their kids to school. But then my question to you is: Are you okay with deporting those that have commited felonies? What do you propose we do to protect the border?
I will feel safer knowing that now they can drive legally and buy insurance.
Oh cut the crap, you're being patronizing
I will feel better that they will come out of the underground economy and be treated like human beings.
You will also feel better, because now they will be LEGAL.
And then you’ll just have to find something else to be unhappy about.
Yeah, you know it's usually the chicanos that piss me off. Immigrants work their asses off to get here, sacrifice their lives and then the only thing their children can think about is: "MOnday I get to ditch school"

When they defended the "Border" they were declared
"savages" by the "white invaders". They and their descendants (Native Americans of North, Central and South America) are the TRUE AMERICANS.
This includes the majority of Mexicans who have indigenous blood flowing through their veins.
The white Europeans and their descendants butchered millions of American Indians. Many tribes were slaughtered into extinction.
The problem is that this "sense of entitlement" and a "sense of superiority" of the descendants of the orginal "racist invaders" still harming us today.
To see proof of the white man's racism, visit one of the thousands of websites where they promote their divisive and racist propaganda.

I did what you suggested and visited the sites:
"MMP has no affiliation with, nor will we accept any assistance by or interference from, separatists, racists, or supremacy groups or individuals, no matter what their race, color, or creed."

In my opinion this issue has been blown out of proportion in a sense. It is a sensitive subject in the least. However, whether or not it is racist, I do not think so. Most people make this law appear to only target one group of people, and it does not. Hispanics are not the only group in question. True enough, proportionally, they are in abundance. I think if most people took their emotions out of it for a second and really tried to see what the new legislation is calling for, they would not be so combative. Look at it in this light.
America does have the responsibility to ensure the well being of all people. But what is unique about American citizens is that we enjoy certain privileges. This includes LEGAL immigrants. Illegal immigrants are not entitled to these privileges. I do believe that America does sympathize with immigrants. But it does not support illegal immigration. And that is, in the least, understandable.
It is obvious that anything that is illegal is a crime; which makes those who commit illegal acts criminals. This implies that illegal immigrants, in the eyes of the justice system, are criminals. Comparable to other crimes, criminals lose most of their rights and privileges when they are convicted of a crime whether they are a citizen or not. This is why we have border patrol. To deter and punish those who commit the crime of illegally crossing the border. This is not limited to the borders of Mexico.
No one speaks of the hundreds of illegal Asian or African immigrants being smuggles through seaports in cargo containers. But since this issue hits so close to home, and people were rubbed the wrong way, so to speak, were willing to do any and everything to defeat it. I feel that those who were genuinely against this resolution used racism as a propaganda device to gain support. And the presupposition that it is racist is a part of partisan politics.
Scrutinizing anyone for going to work tomorrow and calling them racist for not protesting is discrimination.
Comparing Black History Month is irrelevant! It is in no way separatist, only to those who are uneducated on the issue that way, as illustrated in a previous post. It was in fact a tribute to African American influence, advancement, contribution, and legacy. Arguably, the reason this country and world is so advanced is due to African Americans. For example, a black man is responsible for the internet. If you think I am wrong, look into it. But this is not the issue at hand.
City officials, in a sense are obligated to go to work, because they may be needed tomorrow more than most people think. Villaraigosa should go to work tomorrow. The fact that the NFL talks are tomorrow is coincidence. I would not feel comfortable if he did not go to work. Would the president not going to work tomorrow seem right if he were Latino? He has a job in which he can not afford to take a day off from work just as the mayor of Los Angeles does. Pick your battles wisely.
I am in no way a racist, for those who may suggest that. Furthermore I did not support the initial form of HR4437. Not because it was racist, but because it was unrealistic. I feel it did need some reform. The entire system needs reform. By all means fight for what is right. Fight for reform. Fight for laws that made it easier for immigrants to gain citizenship. Tomorrow will give legislators see what would happen if immigration were not apart of the history of America. By all means fight for what you believe in, but if you cannot rely on the facts alone to prove your case and gain support, something is wrong. Relying on calling this racist to gain support is just as unrealistic and racist and unethical as this resolution is claimed to be. Capitalist and sensitive, it is, racist, it is not.
Don't read Wikipedia for your facts.
The fact is the U.S. is Mexico's #1 trading partner.
Over the past decade, trade between the United States and Mexico has nearly tripled to about $230 billion. Today, Mexico is America's second-largest trading partner, and we are Mexico's largest."

As I said. Villaraigosa gets it.
LA Times quotes.
"Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa estimated nearly a million people demonstrated throughout the day. "We come to work, we come for a better life, we come to participate for the American dream," he told the marchers on Wilshire at La Brea this evening."
"This march — protest, as it's developed, has been very peaceful as we suspected from the beginning."
"I'm mayor for all the people," Villaraigosa said. "But without question, I'm also someone who is a proud American, [and] also proud of where my family came from. I've never been shy about the fact that these people out here want to be a part of the American dream. I support them. I don't necessarily have to make every single demonstration to manifest that support."

Crossing the Border
Listen to this Commentary!
By Denise Tejada
Yes I’m proud to say I’m an immigrant
I’m not gonna let people bring me down with words
If crossing the border didn’t stop me,
What makes you think your words
Are gonna stop me now?!
Two months of risking my life
Taught me life is not just pretty colors
But it has its dark sides
I was only seven when I was forced to
Cross the border
Yes, I’m proud of being an immigrant
Wore the same clothes for two months
Slept on top of rocks and
Used garbage bags as blankets
As an immigrant I’m proud
I’m not ashamed
Suffocation was going to be the main cause of my death
Yes, I’m proud
I was forced into a truck that was full of people
And no room for people to breath
Minutes went by hours had passed and I was ready
To hit the floor and never get up
Now you tell me I can’t make it
Because I’m not light enough
Because my hair ain’t blond enough
Because I’m not a citizen
Well I’m a resident and
That’s enough to get me through
Yes, I’m proud of my roots
And if my roots represent immigration
Then I’m proud
You can’t believe English was my second language
Now that shows you how hard I worked to gain that respect
I’m gonna say it loud and proud
Till my voice is gone
I’m an immigrant
Yes, I’m an immigrant
I was a living ghost
Walking the streets of California
For the United States I never existed
Until seven years ago
Now I’m sixteen years old
And working hard on becoming a U.S. Citizen
But never forgetting about my roots
House of Representatives Bill 4437
Proposal
On December 6, 2005, Representative Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) introduced H.R. 4437 onto the floor of the House of Representatives. After going through mark-up and amendment, the full House voted to pass the bill on December 16, 2005, by a margin of 239 to 182.
[edit]
Provisions
* Requires up to 700 miles (1100 km) of fence along the U.S.-Mexican border at points with the highest number of immigrant deaths. (House Amendment 648, authored by Duncan Hunter)
* Requires the federal government to take custody of illegal aliens detained by local authorities. This would end the practice of "catch and release", where federal officials sometimes instruct local law enforcement to release detained illegal aliens because resources to prosecute them are not available. It also reimburses local agencies in the 29 counties along the border for costs related to detaining illegal aliens. (Section 607)
* Mandates employers to verify workers' legal status through electronic means, phased in over several years. Also requires reports to be sent to Congress one and two years after implementation to ensure that it is being used. (Title VII)
* Eliminates the Diversity Immigrant Visa (also known as Green Card Lottery) program. (House Amendment 650, authored by Bob Goodlatte)
* Prohibits grants to federal, state, or local government agencies that enact or maintain a sanctuary policy. (House Amendment 659, authored by Thomas Tancredo)
* Incorporates satellite communications between immigration enforcement officials. (House Amendment 638, authored by John Carter)
* Requires all United States Border Patrol uniforms to be made in the U.S. to avoid forgeries. (House Amendment 641, authored by Rick Renzi)
* Institutes a timeline for deployment of US-VISIT to all land-based checkpoints. (House Amendment 642, authored by Michael Castle)
* Requires the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to report to Congress on the number of OTMs (Other Than Mexicans) apprehended and deported and the number of those from states that sponsor terror. (Section 401)
* Formalizes Congressional condemnation of rapes by smugglers along the border and urges Mexico to take immediate action to prevent them. (House Amendment 647, authored by Ginny Brown-Waite
* All illegals before deported must pay a fine of $3,000 if they agree to leave voluntarily but do not adhere to the terms of their agreement. The grace period for voluntary departure is shortened to 60 days.
* All children born to illegal immigrants in the United States will become wards of the state.
* Requires DHS to conduct a study on the potential for border fencing on the US-Canada border.
* Sets the minimum sentence for fraudulent documents at 10 years, fines, or both, with tougher sentencing in cases of aiding drug trafficking or terrorism.
* Establishes a Fraudulent Documents Center within DHS.
* Increases penalties for aggravated felonies and various frauds, including marriage fraud and document fraud.
* Establishes an 18-month deadline for DHS to control the border, with a progress report due one year after enactment of the legislation.
* Requires criminal record, terrorist watch list clearance, and fraudulent document checks for any alien before being granted legal immigration status.
* Reimburses states aiding in immigration enforcement.
* Housing of illegals will be considered a felony and subject to no less than 3 years in prison.
* Allows deportation of any illegal alien convicted of driving under the influence (DUI).
* Adds human trafficking and human smuggling to the money-laundering statute.
* Increases penalties for employing illegal aliens to $7,500 for first time offenses, $15,000 for second offenses, and $40,000 for all subsequent offenses.
* Allows the US to refuse to accept immigrants from countries which delay or refuse to accept the foreign country's citizens deported from the United States (Section 404).
And of course you are aware that said version is now non-existent. It was revised in the floor of the Senate and halted briefly. It was slated to go back on the floor soon but after your antics, it is completely unlikely that this will happen. One of your biggest supporters, Senator Kennedy, was offended by the anthem in spanish and the demonstrations of separatism that attempted to harm the U.S. economy and is no longer pushing your cause.
To the WHITE DEFENDER you must be a dark, short, men with indigineous traits that feels that white, blonde caucassian people are superior. GIVE UP YOUR FEELING OF INFERIORITY and accept yourself. "BROWN IS BEAUTIFUL" , you probably married a white women, right???
I'm a dark tall man with both indigenous and European traits that feels that all people are equal and I behave accordingly.
The only ones who express feelings of inferiority are the ones who readily admit that this 'white' government is somehow holding us back. I'm sorry, I'm not ready to give 'whites' or this 'government' that kind of power over me.
"Brown is irrelevant" -- My skin color does not limit or define me.
Those in this forum who advance illegal aliens are the only ones who have this obession with race.
By the way, my personal life is none of your business. Why does it matter? It's an ad hominem attack, you are more interested in attacking my character than in refuting my points.
well, Let's keep in mind that we all come from different parts of the world and we're all here in the great U. S.of A for the opportunity to progress in life. First thing in becoming a citizen is to take an oath to obey the laws and jurisdiciton of U.S.A. Now...just because you crawled, jump, swam, ran, or even hid in a container somwhere,to get into the country...doesn't mean that U.S. owes you a favor for your struggles... Please...quit looking for an easy way out. You're in their turf now! Laws are there for a reason. I'm pretty sure that majority of the protestors can't even speak, read, or write in English...C'mon Now! Stop trying to force your way in. Abide by the laws and move on.
Yeah,
it's real important to obey the laws of this country, just ask our elected officials from the federal government. Now that is what call setting the example for these protestors. These protestors are reminding us Americans that public dissent is an important component of a true democracy. When is the last time Americans have protested anything in such mass quantities? Do these "protestors" or "illegals" value and understand basic democratic principles moreso that our citizenry?
To the coconut, yes I can also act childish like you claim, but people like you convert us to this. HERE ARE YOUR MISCONCEPTIONS:
1. Immigrants are not people. Of course you never say this explicitly, but it saturates the subtext of anti-immigration arguments.
Two things: Firstly, nobody is pushing anti-immigration. There is a difference between immigration and illegal immigration. Secondly, it's always pleasant to see people who try to put words into our mouths in order to establish a point. It's especially encouraging to see people openly admit that we did not express certain ideas, but continue to credit us with them anyway
I have yet to see an immigration critic show any evidence of compassion, of willingness or ability to see the other side.
I have yet to see an illegal immigration advocate show any understanding of the mentality behind anti-illegal immigration sentiments. The key element to any persuasive speech is to appeal to the crowd that is least affected. Everybody knows how immigration reform/amnesty benefits the illegals already here, why not try to understand what the citizenry's position is, why it is such [instead of just dismissing them as racists] and trying to appeal to that instead of preaching separatism and reconquista. Instead of having a large protest and skipping work and schools [both acts that demonstrate an amazing degree of responsibility] why don't we have a day where that same crowd cleans the streets of Los Angeles free of charge. Just downtown L.A. Why not show that we're willing to do positive things to be a part of the system?
No one says, "Hey, if America were a desert and Mexico were a nation of showy wealth and higher wages, and I were desperately poor and had nothing to lose, I'd totally sneak in there -- and I'd bring my culture with me!"
Completely invalid argument: Appeal to extremes
The dehumanization of immigrants is done through words -- "hordes" "pouring" across the border, not people walking across -- and through disparaging references to their culture, language, or race. The statement that "white" people will one day be a minority in America, or that some percentage of Californians don't even speak English, or that immigrants are still dressing the way they did in Mexico, has no importance except to a racist.
Now you're playing the semantics game. Do you prefer "masses" "sneaking" across the border? The statements you described above [with the exception of the language one] are more likely to be mentioned by "la raza" than by citizens. "La Raza" and the other jokers are the only ones who are really interested in the change in the ethnic makeup of California. Other groups could care less so long as their neighborhoods are kept in good order.
2. White. "White" is not a race. It's an elite class and culture whose meaning has changed many times to accommodate the needs of elitism and domination. In America, Irish, Italians, Jews, and others were once considered non-white, and were later invited to join the club, in exchange for their willingness to identify with the divisive and oppressive system.
The only side that's divisive about this issue is the racist pro-illegal side that is obsessed with reconquista and "taking back" the land
George Washington's name among the Indians was Town Destroyer.
Red herring
As Americans and yes immigrants we are supposed to identify with him, to lamely defend or justify him or at least feel apologetic for what "those" people did to those other people. I refuse! I identify with the Indians, and we want the land back!
I identify with neither, they lived a hell of a long time ago and quite frankly I'm not THAT OBSESSED with the past. While understanding it is fundamental, I really do not associate or identify myself with the English or the Spanish or the Aztec. To identify with the indians means that you have already accepted a position as a victim which really seems tragic to me, considering that the only one being affected by that self-imposed limitation is you
After all, my ancestors in the region now called "Europe" once lived much like American Indians, before they were violently conquered by the hierarchical, forest-cutting Indo-Europeans and later the Romans -- who certainly believed themselves racially superior to the paler-skinned aliens, the impoverished barbarous northerners who flowed in and polluted the glorious city of Rome.
Red Herring
3. Immigration equals conquest. The idea here is that moving into a land occupied by others by means of military aggression, massacring noncombatants, destroying villages and food sources, forcing people off the land, keeping them as slaves, sending them to concentration camps, assassinating their leaders, stamping out their language and culture -- that this is morally and tactically equivalent to simply moving in next to them, keeping your own culture, and surviving.
Nobody objects to a maintaining of your own culture. Hell, I keep my own culture all the time. When the 5th of may rolls around, I do nothing, just as I did nothing in Mexico. When the 16th of September comes, I'm on Galavision watch the Grito from Mexico City. I have pozole on Christmas and Tamales on New Year's. I follow Mexican football, Mexican politics, etc. etc. etc. And anybody that knows me, including the "oppressive whites" can understand and accept this. It's funny, I know neo-con Republicans who completely know how I feel about Mexico and they have zero objections. Why? Because in the public square, I speak the public language, I respect those around me and I don't impose my ideas on them. Does that take away from my nationality or my love for the place of my birth?
3. Land belongs to whoever's already there. This argument, predictably, is used only by people who are holding the land in question at the time, no matter how they took it or how long they've been there, and conveniently they apply it only to the present and future, never to the past. But this is hypocritical and illogical. If it's wrong for Mexicans to come peacefully to America and mooch off our luxuries, then it was far more wrong for Europeans to come here, kill almost all the humans and large mammals who were already here, and poison and deplete the land.
Appeal to extremes
A PROUD MEXICAN IMMIGRANT THAT DOES NOT ASSIMILATE TO "FEEL PROMOTED AS A HUMAN" ......PROUD MEXICAN "ORGULLOSO DE SUS RAICES"
Really? is that why you refuse assimilation? I didn't know I had to assimilate to be a hUman, I thought that was just a sense of pride that I developed for myself.
You know, flowers are beautiful, and all their lives they stay so close to their roots which are relatively short, but they're very easy to pick out and get rid of because they're so weak and so dependent on what little roots they have. But a tree: a tree grows up and away from its roots, and the more it does, the more its roots are extended and consolidated. Now you tell me which is easier to crush? The flower that stayed close to its roots and never grew or the tree that grew away from its roots and didn't feel the need to stay close to them in order to consolidate them. I don't have to obsess with my roots in order for them to be strong. Mexican is my nationality, but it doesn't define me.
Just to help out. Seems humans weren't responsible for the extinction of 'large mammals.'

Way to go Napoleon. That will teach the employees. Keep up the short work.
Napoleon may be a short shit, the little guy, y el hermano del piso, but he carries a big stick. He could make a movie about himself and instead of calling it Walking Tall it could be called Walking Small.
