Shame on you Leticia Vasquez!!! Stop using city funds to give "WOMEN AWARDS" to all of your friends. These awards should only be given to deserving women. Get up and out into the community to seek out deserving women! It's so obvious that your campaigning!!Were not as stupid as you think we are!!!!!

Leticia Vazquez !! I will not vote for you!! You have not done anything for our people, instead you side with others, stop and get a reality check, you are brown!!

Regarding the Garage Conversion, my question to council members, What are you doing to provide adequate, afordable housing in the city??? It's inhumane to throw people in the street, without providing any support!! shame on you!!

Regarding garage conversions.
I agree with the above comment. The problem is not council, the problem are the people who buy homes and can't afford to make payments. We have two or three families living in the house, plus others living in garages. This generates many problems, such as parking. I can't find a damn parking spot for my car because it's full!! The city's infrastructure is not apt to handle so many users. There are 10 people per 2 bedroom house in Lynwood, plus the husband, wife and three children that live in the garage.

REGARDING GARAGE CONVERSIONS ALSO. MY WIFE AND I HAVE LIVED IN LYNWOOD FOR MANY YEARS. WE BOTH HAVE JOBS AND LIKE ANY OTHER FAMILY, LIVE ON A BUDGET. WE PLANNED HOME OWNERSHIP WAY BEFORE WE WERE APPROVED BY THE BANK. WE ALSO AGREED THAT ONE OF THE TWO MAY HAVE TO GET A SECOND JOB WHEN THE CHILDREN GOT TO SCHOOL AGE TO AFFORD HOME PAYMENTS, SCHOOL, ETC.

NOT EVERYTHING HAS TURNED OUT AS WE PLANNED IT, BUT WE DID TOOK ALL THESE MEASURES SO WE COULD GIVE OUR TWO CHILDREN A GOOD LIFE.

MY NEXT DOOR NEIGHBOR HAS THREE ADULT CHILDREN, TWO FEMALES AND A MALE. THE THREE OF THEM ARE MARRIED. ONE OF THE FAMALES AND THE SON HAVE TWO CHILDREN EACH. THE OTHER DAUGHTER HAS THREE CHILDREN. ALL OF THEM LIVE IN A TWO BEDROOM HOUSE. THE GARAGE IS ALSO RENTED TO PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT RELATIVES.

DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA OF HOW MANY DAMN CARS THIS FAMILY HAS AND HOW MUCH NOISE THEY MAKE? I'M SICK AND TIRED OF NOT HAVING PARKINGING IN MY OWN HOUSE. CODE ENFORCEMENT HAS FAILED. THEY CAME, DID THE INSPECTION, THE GARAGE WAS BUILT TO A GARAGE A GAIN, AND A MONTH AFTER, THE GARAGE WAS A ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT AGAIN.

THIS SAME PROBLEM WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN. CODE ENFORCMENT WILL NOT SOLVE ANYTHING. THIS IS A PROBLEM THEY IGNORED AND IT'S NOW OUT OF CONTROL. MANY OF US ARE STARTING TO LEAVE LYNWOOD AND LOOKING ELSEWHERE. THIS PROBLEM GOES BACK A LONG, LONG TIME, AND IT'S NOT GOING TO BE SOLVED WITH A COUPLE OF INSPECTIONS.

Hiprocracy and Misleading Statements by Mayor-Pro Term Maria Teresa Santillan and Mayor Ramon Rodriguez!

About them writing a check for $ 800.00 to a family. Familiy that Maria and Ramon put in that situation in the first place.
"If they could , santillan said she and Ramon would like to help every family in Lynwood who may be displace by this sweeps program". During the council meeting on April 15th when Grant Taylor presented his proposal to crack down on garage conversions, I heard only LAUGHTER from Ramon and Maria and the rest of council members, and now they want to portrayed themselves as two compassionate and concerned individuals for poor famlies GIVE ME A Brake! It was an unanimous 5 to 0
vote and I didn't hear any recomendations to protect individulas civil rights.
The fact of the matter is that our city has failed to meet a state mandate to offer affortable homes and has maintained a huge bureaucracy and red tape on permits
to build second units on properties that qualify under the Grannys Flats
also a state mandate.
All of this is old, and lack of vision, and leadership from past and present city council members.
What council members need to do is STOP GIVEN the money from FIRST HOME BUYERS and related grants to Family and Friends and give it to real needy families.
They let this grew when it was convinient for them and now they want to cover the sun with a finger, I would like to see our residents treated with respect and dignity they deserve.
A LONG time resident and REGISTERED VOTER

How funny, that's exactly 1% of what Santillan used of tax payers money to get into office. The City paid over $80,000 to Santillan's attorney who helped her get into the council. All of us who ran against Santillan and Richards we're better for the seat, that goest to show you looks are deceiving.

80,000 for the attorney.not for Santillan.thanks to Richards,Bird,Pedroza because they didnt listen to the secretary of state.please check your info first

Let's not get off the subject here. Going back to the garage issue. I don't think this project's going to fly:

1) It's very politically explosive. It's election year. Three are up for re-election. They will want to keep people happy, and people are not happy if they are being removed from their "home", even if it's a garage. They will oppose, plus, that's a good ticket for the political hopefuls.

2) Code Enforcement is not capable. It's only 5 or 6 people for the whole city, how realistic is that? Plus, they are not a united team, lack of managerial skills makes them incapable of concentrating in the project (don't forget big issues with women in the department, almost half of the officers suffer stress (1 has been out for a year, another almost had a heart attack)). If they can't solve their interal issues, what makes us think they'll solve the city's problems?

3) Garages will be converted again. After the inspections are over, people will convert their garages again. It's happened before, it happens now, and it is very likely that it'll happen again. This is a problem that the City should have taken care of and didn't. Now it's out of proportion. Even the Block Watch Captain had a garage conversion at one point. There are no quick fixes.

The City needs to reinforce the presale inspections also, this problem needs different approaches, not just one. We all need to pitch in, and start giving ideas. May be one or two will be worthy. Cheers!

This website was designed to keep the residents aware of what is happening inside city hall. It is beneficial to many people who will need this information in November. The comments that are being posted throughout this site is causing it to lose credibility. We need this information disseminated to the community at large so that good choices will be made during the election. There are (3) seats on council that will be challenged...let's back off the comments not related to the topics and help those who are trying to "put us in the know."

It is a shame that we the residents have to put up we a council that says one thing and does another,if you think garage conversions are ok wait till its next door to you, wait till the smell hits you of people going to the bathroom outside. I hope the garage does'nt start on fire. The mayor said he would do something and send code enforcment out to check, how can they check if they don't know how and remember it is election time!!

I recently came across your site and found it to be a breathe of fresh air. I like many of your readers have been a resident of Lynwood for about 25 years. In all this time I have seen many changes, none of which have been very good. Sure we have new businesses and commercially there is a big mprovement, but socially we have regresed. Our neighborhoods are overcrowded, our schools are overcrowded and crime has also elevated. I long for the days of yesteryear. There went the neighborhood...
